'So that's your ambition, is it? Scriptwriting?’

So says the character of Shadrack in British New Wave film, Billy Liar. It’s a classic. Funny and prescient (even now), it revolves around the lofty - often silly - daydreams of a young man in provincial Northern England in the sixties.

You may not be quite so in thrall to your own imagination as Billy, dear writer. Hopefully, your storytelling doesn’t drive everyone around you to exasperation. Or hopefully it does. There are merits in both, to be honest.

What I’m proposing, though, is a healthy outlet. A forum to talk story. A community with whom to share your writing. I set up Lincoln Script Lab this year to improve industry skills and access. Billy’s friends laugh at him, but telling your story - and finding your voice - isn’t a small thing. It isn’t silly, even if your story is.

Our inaugural courses begin in September, in person in Lincoln and Nettleham, and online. There will be taught components, looking at important script elements such as structure and dialogue, but everything we do will ultimately be geared towards you writing and developing your own script across the 10 weeks. The process will be accessible, creative and fun. It will also require engagement, which is why we’ve structured our workshops every 2 weeks to give you sufficient time to write and create. What is a writer who doesn’t write?

For details of the schedule please click on Courses.

Equally, if you have any questions or queries, don’t hesitate to drop me an email. I am not a robot (although that’s probably what a robot would say) and I will be only too happy to talk things through.

The only thing that remains to be said is thank-you. We are in the early days of this venture and I appreciate your support. I know together we can grow Lincoln Script Lab into something amazing!
